Monthly tea dance at the Royal Opera House with a competent and large dance orchestra. It's not so easy to get tickets as they sell out way in advance, and preference is given to 'Friends of Covent Garden Opera House', but I discovered that they always sell a few tickets on the day to personal callers. I discovered this by chatting to an out of place looking young Anercian tourist before and was walking around wearing jeans, hiking boots, a rucksack and a puzzled look on his face and he told me that he had bought a ticket only half an hour earlier at the booking office. So, you could take a chance by just turning up at the booking office 12 noon, then going for a cup of tea or lunch somewhere beofre the dance starts. The orchestra, most of whom play also in the excellent Berkeley Square Dance Orchestra are experienced older musicians who number around eleven. The complementary tea and biscuits isn't so wonderful but as the tickets are only £10 each one shouldn't complain. It's a large sprung wooden dance floor, a womnderfully dramatic interior with an all round balcony to take photos from and there's pleasant ambience though it would be nice to see few more dancers under 65 years old.
