Cinema Socials at Bertha DocHouse
Our next EXTRA SPECIAL cinema social night will be Wednesday 9th May, meeting at 6pm for a 6.30pm screening. We'll go to a pub after for drink/food and for a chat. This is a one-off special arts screening of Blue Orchids preceded by two short documentaries and followed by a Q&A with director Johan Grimonprez and writer Andrew Feinstein. A portrait of two people on different sides of the global arms trade, Blue Orchids reveals the duplicity and corruption that keep the industry of war alive. While interviewing the subjects of his recent release Shadow World, director Johan Grimonprez was struck by how similarly the war correspondent Chris Hedges and the arms dealer Riccardo Privitera discussed the anguish and trauma caused by war, despite their opposing perspectives. Placing their interviews side-by-side, one war merges with another as they reveal their experiences and thoughts on the politics and deception that breed conflict. Cut with archive footage of news reports and aerial shots from wars across the years, Blue Orchids is a thoughtful and at times shocking provocation of the devastating effects of war. Trailer: Tickets are at an exclusive discounted value of just £10.50 including booking fees - the usual price is £12.50 - thank you Doc House! :-) To buy your ticket simply RSVP yes to this meetup, and follow the process which takes payment through Paypal. An LDN organiser will be at the entrance to the Curzon building / foyer area (entrance level). Feel free to simply watch a great doc at a discount rate but if you can make it to the bar after for a chat then great - at least one LDN organiser will be there, so it’s a great chance to get more information about us and our future events.
