New Year Eve Party and 4 day Hiking trip in the Wye Valley
Come and join us for a fabulous 4-night trip and New Year's celebrations in the stunning Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which is an internationally important protected landscape straddling the border between England and Wales. It is one of the most dramatic and scenic landscapes in Britain. This is our 4th New Years Eve hiking trip, this year we have exclusively hired accommodation which is a former Victorian rectory set in 25 acres of land overlooking the river Wye with splendid views of the Forest of Dean and Symonds Yat Rock. With people returning to work on the 2nd January, we chose the location for its ease of access and reduce time spent travelling. This is an ideal property for this trip with separate lounges for music and dance, the other a quieter space to relax. This is a great opportunity to explore the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean, celebrate the New Year with like-minded outdoor enthusiasts. The hiking will be moderate with some hills and weather dependent, on the positive side a great opportunity of burning off those extra calories piled on over the Christmas break! As well as good hiking in the area, there are great cycling trails and a mountain bike park for those who want to ride too. We will advise on what to pack and how to prepare for the weather. We will plan the hikes based on the weather conditions, this may include lower level hikes or visits to local attractions. This is a fun packed 4-day trip and New Year celebration party. Don't forget to bring your dancing shoes and sense of fun. We will have various games throughout the New Years Eve and Karaoke too. This trip is geared around having fun and celebrating the arrival of the New Year. This will be a smaller group than previous years with around 35 people to ensure we are not over crowded and create a friendly atmosphere. WHAT'S INCLUDED: • 4 nights’ accommodation in our very own exclusively hired accommodation. • 4 cooked breakfasts • 3 packed lunches • 3 Guided Hikes by experienced hike leaders • 3 dinners on Saturday, Sunday, Monday • Homemade cakes for afternoon tea after each day's hike • New Years Eve Dec 31st - late buffet supper • Compliance with the 1992 Travel Package Regulations including financial protection Price DOES NOT include: • Transport to and from the destination • Alcoholic drinks and other incidentals ACCOMMODATION The accommodation consists of 38 beds across 9 bedrooms, these will be allocated into single-sex rooms. Rooms have bunk beds, these are not allocated but the smaller rooms will be allocated to those who sign up first. Last updated February 2010

London Escapes is a walking and hiking group with a creative edge.

Past and future
The group was created in May 2009 by Frankie who was inspired by a beautiful walk to Bodiam Castle. We currently do day trips and are building up to weekend trips in the UK now that we have a core group of members within the membership of 700. The future may well include weekend trips abroad. Walks are around 6 miles (10Km) with longer walks in the Summer.

We generally limit numbers which makes the logistics nice and friendly. Sometimes groups might be bigger if we team up with another meetup.

This year
In 2010 the group will be focusing on the 'creative edge' which makes us a bit different from other walking groups. Look out for visits to artists studios, small music festivals, special photography sessions and quirky rural cultural events.

Last year one of our highlights was the a visit to Swanage and the Pumpkin Festival ( and the Halloween inspired visit to Highgate Cemetery ( was also really popular.

Check out our terrific photo albums ( to see last year's events.

Hot news and tips

The group is a mixture of people who are new to the London area, and Londoners who would like to make new friends and connections whilst escaping the city confines. As group organiser, I aim to make the group more than just a series of events - it's a club of loyal members and friends.

Members are welcoming and friendly to each other, give positive constructive feedback, and are encouraged to actively contribute to the group.

Break out of routine, watch the landscape change from urban grey to leafy green… before you know it the growl of traffic is a distant hum and tweeting is real birdsong!
