Hi London Gophers! 👋

Woah! Hold on to your hats, do we have an evening of talks for you this month!

It promises to be a sold out night, so if you can't make it for the main event join us for social drinks after the main event or watch Live on our YouTube channel

Please be aware we will be checking names at the door and attendance is strictly limited. To make it fair to everyone we will start letting in people from the waitlist on a first come, first served basis from about 18:45 onwards until we reach max capacity. Please bring your ID. Apologies in advance if you don't make it in - please join us online for the live stream and in the pub afterwards! 🙏

🏛 Foundations of Go - TBC

"Foundations of Go" is aimed at new and experienced Gophers alike. The format will be a single 5 minute slot with live demos/coding covering everything from "Getting started with Go + VSCode", to "Maps in action", "Defining methods", "Using context.Context", "Working with JSON" and much much more.

If you are interested in giving a Foundations of Go talk please reach out to us on Twitter, Slack or email ([masked]).

🗣 Nick Ng - WARNING: DATA RACE exit status 66

In this talk Nick will try to explain what is a data race, why we should care about them, and how we can avoid running into them in Go.

🗣 Ben Bryant - Go 3 months in

From 'Hello World' to life as a Gopher can seem like a real journey.

Follow the first steps of a Gopher exploring the lessons learnt and challenges faced along the way.

Gopher Life could be right for you and may just be around the corner.

🗣 Dave Cheney - Absolute Unit (Test)

I’m a fan of developing tests while you write your code. It felt right that I should make my tests the first consumer of my code (and I’ve found supporting evidence that this idea goes back to the early 60’s), but in practice, that is to say, the practice of TDD, this always seemed to slow me down and create brittle test suites.

This is a talk about how relearning my approach to unit testing helped me understand how to practice TDD more effectively in my development workflow, but more importantly, how to design my packages as a unit, focused on their behaviour, not their implementation.

🍻 Post Event Social - The Fox (5 min walk from Monzo)

If you can't make it to the main event (working late, stuck on the waitlist, that big date) please join all the attendees in the pub for some refreshments. It's a great place to socialise, discuss talks and just hang out with other Gophers 🤓.

🏆 Everyone attending the event will have a chance to win a JetBrains license valid for a year!

📣 If you'd like to give a talk at the future meetups, don't be shy, we are always looking for speakers and speaker mentors that want to share their adventures with Go. Do get in touch! We’ll be happy to support you and offer advice if needed 🙂.
