• Jonathan Kreisberg and Nelson Veras at The Spice of Life

Spice Of Life Pub, Tel: 020 7437 7013

I have arranged for leading guitarists Jonathan Kreisberg and Nelson Veras to bring their duo project to the UK for a handful of live dates this March. The run ends at the Spice of Life in Soho on Wednesday 27 March. This is the duo's only London performance in 2019 and a rare opportunity to hear these world-renowned musicians perform in an intimate setting. Jonathan is well-known to London audiences as a sideman with the legendary organist Dr Lonnie Smith and as a leader of his quartets with the likes of Will Vinson and Colin Stranahan. Nelson is a rare visitor to the UK and one of the most remarkable guitarists working today. I wanted to give LJGS members an early heads-up as tickets have just gone on sale this week. Tickets are £15 in advance from https://www.wegottickets.com/event/461372 Any remaining tickets will be £20 on the door. I'll be running around on the evening but hope to see some of you there! KREISBERG meets VERAS The greatest collaborations often are built upon two unique personalities that combine to create something beyond and outside of what the two had achieved individually. When those two musical individuals are like minded, yet possess their own specific sounds and approaches, the results can challenge the two to reach new heights and bring exhilarated audiences along for the ride. Such is the musical friendship of guitarists Jonathan Kreisberg and Nelson Veras, and their upcoming recording and tours will introduce audiences to a new sound in the world of guitar. Combining timeless melodicism and american swing with forward–thinking lines and textures, the music of Jonathan Kreisberg continues to attract a growing international fan base. The guitarist has performed 20th century works with the New World Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas; led his own groups and recorded several critically acclaimed cd's, and played and recorded with Dr. Lonnie Smith, Joe Locke, Lee Konitz, Bill Stewart and Larry Grenadier among others. Nelson Veras has long been one of the Guitar world's great secrets, possessing a unique style based on a mixture of classical guitar techniques, modern jazz and classical harmony, and his Brazilian roots. He was "discovered" by Pat Metheny at age 14 and went on to win numerous awards before he was even 19. He has performed/recorded with Steve Coleman, Michel Petrucciani, Tomasz Stanko, and Manu Kaché among others.

  • Brazilian and jazz guitar with Yotam Silberstein

    RADA Studios

    £20.00

Since moving to New York in 2005 and being a finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Guitar Competition that year, Yotam Silberstein has performed and recorded with such major jazz figures as James Moody, George Coleman, Jimmy Health, Roy Hargrove and John Patitucci. He is featured on a variety of critically acclaimed releases including ‘Resonance’ and ‘Brasil’ on the Jazz Legacy Productions label, John Patitucci‘s new trio album ‘Irmaos De Fe’ and Monty Alexander’s Grammy-nominated “Harlem-Kingston Express Live!” among others. He is in London to appear with his group at Pizza Express Jazz Club on Monday 11 March. I am very pleased that he has agreed to fly in a day early to give a masterclass for our group. In addition to his impeccable straight-ahead playing, Yotam is an expert in the music of Brazil and the musical traditions of a number of South American and Meditteranean countries. In this masterclass, Yotam will introduce us to a number of these musical styles. During the second hour, Yotam will share some of his techniques and exercises to develop the core skills needed for playing jazz and creative music on the guitar, as well as inviting some attendees to play (time permitting). Attendees are encouraged to bring instruments. Please do not bring amps. No one will be pressured to play. As this event is taking place within RADA's building, I am required to provide a register of attendees the day before the event. Please book in advance as it may not be possible to get you in on the day. Students can claim a discounted rate of £15 for this class by emailing [masked]

Nelson, BRAVO !” - Pat Martino ON JONATHAN... "He is a great musician whose playing and writing always tell a story. His formidable technique and intellect never get in the way, but only serve the agenda of the heart."
