Come along on Saturday 27th April for a Blue Badge Guided Walk around Fitzrovia!
We have 2 guides and we will be starting the walk in 15 minute gaps, so please indicate which time/guide you wish to go with when you RSVP. If you've never attended before, both the guides are extremely good and qualified Blue Badge Guides, so just choose a random time (when you RSVP it might default to 2:00pm for the time to attend, but just ignore that and just come along at your chosen time).
About the walk and the area
Fitzrovia is probably named after the Fitzroy Tavern, a public house situated on the corner of Charlotte Street and Windmill Street within the district.
Discover the area which was once dubbed “London’s Latin Quarter” and learn how this Georgian development became the place to be for London’s literary and artistic set. We will hear the stories of Fitzrovians past and present including a notorious brothel keeper, artists, writers, an explorer, a jazz musician, architects and a pioneer of birth control.
See two of London’s trendiest hotels, hear the story of one of the most renowned hoaxes ever played, walk down the alleyway where a fictional photographer preyed on his victims and find out about the area’s past as a centre of the furniture trade. We finish in one of London’s most striking Victorian church interiors (subject to access on the day).
The walk is a private walk for the group, we will split into 2 groups and we will be guided by Val Chris (2:00pm) & Diane Burstein (2:15pm).
It will last about 2 hours.
Cost for the guided walk is £8 per person for Full Members of the group and £10 per person for everyone else (payable on the day).

Afterwards we will head to the Champion pub, 12-13 Wells Street (nearest tube: Oxford Circus), for a chat over a drink. Please try and make it to the pub after, as this is where real friendships are made!
Please note, we will only wait at the station for 10 minutes after the advertised meeting time so please be early or on time.
Look out for the red & blue 'London Cultureseekers' group sign outside the station.
Hope to see you there!
