Come along on Saturday 14th September for a coach trip to Salisbury and Old Sarum!
About the trip
Salisbury in Wiltshire was established in 1220, although there has been a settlement here since Neolithic times. It sits on the River Avon and is known as the 'city in the countryside' as its surrounded by a landscape so quintessentially English it’s almost too good to be true.
With timbered buildings, an Early English Gothic Cathedral home to the famous Magna Carta, a thriving market and some of England’s finest historic houses there are many things to be explored.
The cathedral which stands a breathtaking 123 metres (404 feet) into the sky, it is visible from every direction, dominating the landscape for many miles around. It is unique amongst medieval English cathedrals, built within one century with no substantial later additions. It is argueably the finest example of the Early English Gothic style of architecture in Britain.
In the Cathedral itself you'll find the best preserved of only four original Magna Carta's (created in 1215) - the famous agreement made between King John and his barons at Runnymede.
At the end of the day we will be visiting Old Sarum. Old Sarum is located a few miles north of Salisbury and its where Salisbury was established in the way of a hill fort in around 400 AD.
