Details

Come along on Saturday 12th October for a Blue Badge Guided Walk around Notting Hill.

We have 2 guides and we will be starting the walk in 15 minute gaps, so please indicate which time/guide you wish to go with when you RSVP. If you've never attended before, both the guides are extremely good and qualified Blue Badge Guides, so just choose a random time (when you RSVP it might default to 2:00pm for the time to attend, but just ignore that and just come along at your chosen time).

About the walk
The origin of the name "Notting Hill" is uncertain, though an early version appears in the Patent Rolls of 1356 as "Knottynghull".

Trace the history of this area from its notorious days as the home of piggeries and potteries, which was the area around Pottery Lane which was used in the early 19th century for making bricks and tiles out of the heavy clay, to its current status as a fashionable media haunt.

We visit film locations from the famous “Notting Hill” movie, window shop in Portobello’s antique shops and discover squares with luxuriant hidden gardens.

The walk is a private walk for the group, we will split into 2 groups and we will be guided by Rachel Kolsky (2:00pm) & Diane Burstein (2:15pm).

It will last about 2 hours.

Cost for the guided walk is £8 per person for Full Members of the group and £10 per person for everyone else (payable on the day).

Afterwards we will head to the Duke of Wellington pub, 179 Portobello Road (nearest tube: Notting Hill) for a chat over a drink. Please try and make it to the pub after, as this is where real friendships are made!

Please note, we will only wait at the station for 10 minutes after the advertised meeting time so please be early or on time.

Look out for the red & blue 'London Cultureseekers' group sign outside the station.

Hope to see you there!
