Where did you hear about this group?

Through Georgina and Thomas at RecWorks

How long have you been developing with Java?

Ive been developing with Java professionally for 5 years but I have been working with Java throughout my academic career since 1998. I also completed both the Sun certification for JSE6 and Web component Developer for JEE5. Currently im working on the XML API for Expedia affiliate Network. In the past I have also worked for the Walt Disney Company and IBM. Over the years I have encountered many technologies, including but not limited to; in expedia, webservices like SOAP and Rest to provide large scale, hotel search and booking services and transactions for 3rd Party clients. In Disney, Spring (MVC and Batch), Hibernate/JPA and ExtJs4. In IBM Ireland for 4 years we built an enterprise social software platform using J2EE Websphere, JMS, Spring, DB2 and Dojo/Js and used Scrum, TDD/Unit testing. For my Phd in computational linguistics which involved building a text summarisation system developed largely in both Java and Perl.

What are your favourite technologies at the moment?

Hibernate/JPA, JBoss, Spring, interested in MongoDb and planning on tackling the coursera scala course in a September. Would really like to get involved in some Hadoop/ Big Data projects

Would you be interested in hearing about any new Java permanent or contract positions at present? (if yes please add which would be of more interest)

Would you be interested in either guiding/mentoring junior developers, or being mentored yourself in any particular topic? If so we'd love to help! Please expand on which areas you could help, or would like help.
