Concurrency in Practice is still probably the best place to start - if you understand the core java currency concepts, libraries and constructs it covers it will make everything else easier to grasp. It may be 6 years old, but it's very well written and none of the material is any less relevant (apart from fork/join there hasn't really been any other change to Java's built-in concurrency libraries since it was published).

As a next step I'd recommend "Programming Concurrency on the JVM"  which covers more recent concurrency concepts like Actors and STM and has examples of how to integrate them into plain Java applications using the Akka framework.

Hi all,
may I know which is the best book to master multi threading in Java. I am looking for any book which covers concepts in depth and well explained with good number of examples. Considering recent advancements (fork-join) concepts, is "Java Concurrency in practice" still the best book to start with (which was released in 2006)?
