Took us 6 months with one candidate we sponsored, 3 weeks with another. Depends very much on whether you're already in the UK or not, how flexible you are at being able to get to the locations you need to for the steps in the process, whether the company has legal representation accessibly near you if necessary and how comfortable the company is to remotely interview you. We always do our final interviews f2f, so the cost of flying you out to the UK for that would probably be an issue.

Hi guys, 

I was recently approached by a guy who was a very active LJC member 5-6 years ago. He fell in love with London and is now hoping to return. He was asking for my advice regarding visas, I gave him my thoughts and experience but suggested we should open the question to the LJC mailing list. If you have any thoughts on the below please do let me know either personally at [address removed] or to the list. Here is his background and questions:

I’m a Java developer from Australia with around 8 years experience.  I worked in London back in 2010 / 2011 under a working holiday visa and I’m very keen to return.  I was wondering if anyone had any advice they could give me around sponsorship and Tier 2 visas.

- If someone has gone through the process themselves, what was their experience like?
- How long did it take?
- Any advice on what I can expect; things to watch out for; or perhaps suggestions as to how to find employers willing to sponsor?
- Are there any particular skills or technologies that seem to be in short supply at the moment?

Any information or advice at all would be really helpful, and hugely appreciated!
