Long Beach Piano Meetup Group Pages

Due to our esteemed founder moving out of state (and country), we have lost the main meetup location and our group is inactive until a new meetup location becomes available. For the time being, I volunteered to fund the site to allow the members a chance to relive wonderful memories and provide another method of maintaining contact. For the time being, we won't be able to accept new members. Below is the founders' original statement from 2010.

Do you love playing the piano? Are you an adult amateur pianist, struggling to fit enough practice time into your life that you can get back to playing the piano regularly and master those pieces you've always meant to learn? Do you ever feel like there are way too few good opportunities to perform the pieces you work so hard to learn? Family and friends can be great listeners, but they often lack the knowledge to offer constructive criticism ("That sounds great, babe!"), or, even worse, they've already heard you practice so often that those pieces are the last things they want to hear again ("How many more times do you have to play that %#&$ thing before you figure it out?")! If you've taken (or are taking) lessons, perhaps you've experienced what used to happen to me regularly: playing in a studio recital with children and young adults who already seemed capable of performing my pieces way better than I would ever be able to play them!

If you’re an intermediate or advanced adult pianist who’s looking for performance opportunities, or if you would enjoy meeting other people to perform and discuss your piano music, to share techniques and tips for successful performance and to encourage and support other pianists, Long Beach Piano Meetup just may be the group for you! We hope to provide a setting where, at least once a month, we can play works in progress whether they're ready or not as well as perform "finished" pieces and receive helpful feedback (if we want it!).

As the group evolves, I hope we'll be able to find a public space (such as a church with a really great grand piano) and maybe even a sponsor or two for our meetings, but for now, we can meet in the homes of any members who can provide a good piano and accommodate a small group. We usually meet in my home, where my Steinway B resides in a living room with a cathedral ceiling that makes everyone's playing sound wonderful!
