Long Beach Piano Group Meetup (Sunday, June 30)!

  • Jun 30, 2013 · 3:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This is our annual opportunity to banish June Gloom, with a piano party on Sunday, June 30th, and our last get-together until the end of August.

Our June Meetup is traditionally when we celebrate the summer solstice*, not as the ancients did, with bonfires, honey mead and pagan rites, but rather with a thoroughly 21st century afternoon of music, summer  food and drink and conviviality . Summer solstice traditions call for the wearing of floral garlands to ward off evil spirits, but as this is California, we'll settle for flowers in your hair or on your shirt!

 * it will already have occurred Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 10:04 PM!

As our last meetup became something of an endurance marathon by the time all had performed, I'm including a question below about what you want to play. I'll draw up a rough schedule for us to follow so our combined performances don't run too far over 2 hours .

Bruce will be coordinating our post-musical potluck refreshment, so please make his life easier by responding promptly to let him know what you'll be bringing.

Carol and all, I apologize but I will not be able to attend the meet-up today after all. I hope the absence of my fruit salad doesn't leave too much of a void and hope to make it to the next one. Have a great time!

Naomi. we'll make sure you have time for one piece-would you like to specify which one? Our members often play informally during and after dinner, so you'll more than likely be able to play more then :)

    Hi Carol and Everyone,

I'd like to play Chopin's Nocturne in C# minor, Op. 27 No. 1; it should run just short of 5 minutes. If there's time, I could start with Bach's Invention No. 4 in D minor, which should run about a minute. But if the program is getting too long then I'll just play the Nocturne so I won't rush it :-) Thanks & looking forward to meeting everyone!

    June 17, 2013

  • Deniene

Oops. "minutes" and "Hope." Much too much rushed today. :-)

Hi Carol; I'd like to play the Hungarian Melody in B Minor (D817) by Schubert, which lasts about 4 minutes. Time permitting, I might also play a piece by Chopin (not fully prepared though).
