What we're about

Hello,

The goal of the Long Island Independent Film Collaborative is to enable creative people in all areas of filmmaking - writers, actors, producers, directors, videographers, etc. - to connect, match skills with needs and do great work.

Because this group is just beginning, the option of smaller groups developing within the Collaborative, such writers critiquing each other's works or film enthusiasts sharing their experiences, are very real.

All ages and levels of expertise are welcomed.

We look forward to discussing with you what your interests, talents and goals are, and how we can best help you meet your goals.

Stephen Loomis

Long Island Independent Film Collaborative

Hello Thank you for your continued interest in the Long Island Independent Film Collaborative Meetup. You are invited to our next meeting: Tuesday November 6 7:30 - 10:30+ 786 Bethlynn Court East Meadow, NY 11554 (516) 486 - 5057 At that meeting, Frank Verderame will be showing his 8 minute short film, “Put Out Your Hands.” It is a work in progress and he honestly admits it has “flaws.” But I believe we can learn more from “flaws” than perfection. And Frank is open to feedback. He has an outline for a playwriting class, with dialogue as a major topic, which he will be sharing with the group. The 10/10 (ten pages/ten minutes) opportunity to read a script and get feedback will be available after the presentation. Writing, acting, directing, filming, editing and marketing are each separate and critical skills for the ultimate success of any project. But each demands a very different set of skills. All the more reason for knowledgeable speakers in each of these areas to share their knowledge with beginning filmmakers, like myself. The Collaborative always offers the opportunity for more experienced filmmakers/actors/editors etc. to share their experiences and answer questions from the group. The goal of the Collaborative remains to enable creative people in all areas of filmmaking and all levels of experience - writers, actors, producers, directors, videographers, etc. - to connect, match skills with needs and do great work. It is a diversified group with various backgrounds, skills and goals. And, yes, there will be frozen Reese’s peanut butter cups. Looking forward to collaborating with you. Stephen Loomis

Hello Thank you for your continued interest in the Long Island Independent Film Collaborative Meetup. On Friday August 17 at 8:00 PM a 48 hour contest to deliver an independent film of no more than 4 minutes began at the Huntington Cinema Arts Centre. There were teams. The Three Legged Moose team consisting of Daniele Nictora, Christopher Kozak, myself, and including Peter Brown (a gloriously competent sound person and a really nice guy) and the acting talent made a film entitled Window Pain. Whatever else can be said for this experience, it was intensely educational and intense (sleepless) fun. The experience will be presented at the Tuesday night September 4 meeting. The 10/10 (ten pages/ten minutes) opportunity to read a script will be available after the presentation.
