An important note about this event: it's free but if you want to bake a loaf in the mobile oven you must RSVP to [masked]. When you send your RSVP please remember to select the oven loading time you're interested in: 5:00, 6:00 or 7:00. An RSVP in this meetup (over on the right collumn) does not mean that you have reserved a spot for baking.
Grist & Toll (http://gristandtoll.com/) and the Institute of Domestic Technology (http://instituteofdomestictechnology.com/) present Breaking Bread with Josey Baker. Join us as we welcome Josey Baker, the former science teacher turned San Francisco baking sensation, and author of: Josey Baker Bread: Get Baking – Make Awesome Bread – Share the Loaves to hang with us at Grist & Toll, Southern California’s first whole-grain flour mill to open in over 80 years.
We’ll break bread together and Josey will sign copies of his new book. Josey is also packing his slide/road show presentation in his duffle bag for us. He’ll answer your bread making questions, offer advice and basically geek out on all-things-bread.
We are also excited to welcome MOMO for a community bread bake. We invite you to bring your unbaked loaf to be baked in a mobile wood-fired bread oven during the event. Maybe you’ll even get Josey to analyse your crumb – cheaper than a Shrink! Nan Kohler, owner of Grist & Toll, and Joseph Shuldiner of Institute of Domestic Technology will both be on hand to share tips on working with fresh flour and local grains. Fresh Grist & Toll flour will be available for sale.
Loading times for MOMO will be at 5:00, 6:00 and 7:00. Please RSVP to [masked] if you plan on bringing bread for the oven.
Stick around, we will have accompaniments for snacking with the bread plus wine/beer/cocktails.
