Bread Bake in Westchester's Wood-Fired Community Oven

  • to
  • Holy Nativity Episcopal Church -- Community Bread Oven

    6700 W. 83rd Street, Westchester, CA (map)

    33.963108 -118.406540

  • Oven is behind the church. Enter from Dunbarton. Street parking available.
  • Join us for our monthly bread bake --our last scheduled event in a very busy 2016!   Our wood-fired oven is holding good temperatures for three or more loads.  Particularly nice crumb & crust.  Bakers enthuse about the flavor.  Each firing has meant an increase in varieties:  whole grain sourdough, baguettes, drunken raisin, sourdough rye, seeds & sprouts.  Better steam injection is bringing out some nice ears.  And we've been ending with a baked sweet treat and ice cream.

Hope you can join us for this community gathering of folks who enjoy making and eating great bread, baked in a wood-fired earth oven.  And after bread, the oven remains hot -- above 300F -- for hours.  So if you want to bring a pot of stew, some potatoes or other veggies to roast, a casserole for dinner, take advantage of that wood-fired oven tradition:  use that stored heat for something great to eat.

    Please RSVP.

Keep track of the forecast.  We don't fire the oven is rain is probable.

Donations at the event are welcome to support the firewood and oven tool fund.
