Learn to Make Soba Noodles by Hand With Sonoko Sakai

Description of workshop: You will learn to make Nihachi style Japanese soba noodles by hand. Sonoko will introduce Nihachi style soba, using a blend of fresh stone-milled Japanese buckwheat flour and Anson Mills' buckwheat and wheat flours. Learn how to knead, cut, and cook soba noodles, using authentic Japanese soba tools. Sonoko will also make an appetizer, two dipping sauces and a soba dessert. The class will be from 10 am to 1 pm.

What to bring to class: Apron, bandana, tupperware to take home your noodles. Wear comfortable shoes.

Sonoko Sakai is a food writer, noodle maker and Japanese cooking teacher. Sonoko is the program curator of Common Grains, a Japanese government project to promote Japanese food and culture. Sonoko has offered cooking workshops and soba pop up events at UCLA, USC, Japanese American National Museum, Breadbar, Cooks County, Tortoise, Silverlake Wine, Cookbook, ATX and Lark restaurant in Seattle.  Her stories and recipes have appeared in Los Angeles Times, Zester Daily and Saveur Magazine.

  • the Meetup is cancelled
  • the Meetup is rescheduled
  • you can cancel at least 2 day(s) before the Meetup
