Bear in mind that in ancient Rome, March 16th-17th was observed as the Bacchanalia, the feast of the wine God Bacchus; an event that was notorious for its debauchery and drunken revelry even in its own day.

As many Roman festivals were 'christianised' over the years; e.g. Saturnalia became Christmas, Lupercalia became St. Valentines day etc. it is not unreasonable to suppose that St. Patrick's day is in some way a continuation of the Bacchanalia tradition. If not it seems mighty coincidental....?

Um, because St. Patty's day is PIMP, that's why. Look at what his holy day has become. It's fabulously pagan in nature. Leprecauns, faeries, dudes in skirts, and wasted revelry never really vibed with the Holy See.

Have fun kids!

Wait,
Why are you making space for the day that celebrates the man who drove the pagan's out of Ireland?

I don't understand...
