This is the official century of the month for April and the third in a series of twelve Saturday training rides to prepare for the Grand Tour (http://www.lawheelmen.org/the-grand-tour-2/gt-temp-reg/) in June. The trainers are great rides whether you plan on riding in the Grand Tour or not. If you would prefer a shorter ride, there is an alternate metric century option as a separate Meetup because it starts from a different start location one hour later than this one.

Historically, this has been a popular century since it goes to interesting places including a visit to the Natural History Museum in Santa Barbara that has a big blue whale skeleton outside in front. I recall reading that the whale was found washed ashore near Vandenberg Air Force Base in August of 1980, and that it is one of five complete blue whale skeletons in the United States.

Check out our web page at http://www.lawheelmen.org/route-overview-2/?target=whale-of-a-century for full details; description, maps, and route sheets including access to downloadable files for your bike computer (for turn-by-turn directions, logon or create a free RideWithGPS account, copy the route in RideWithGPS, download that copy and upload it to your bike computer).

Cycling involves significant risks so please never let your guard down, know and follow the rules of the road and always exercise safety.
Please wear a helmet and bring flat tire repair gear (tubes, tire levers, pump and C02). Don't forget water.

If you will be joining us for the first time, be sure to bring a signed release of liability waiver and hand it to the ride leader or to a club member at the start. Download the waiver at http://www.lawheelmen.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Waiver-and-Release-of-Liability-2013.pdf. Hope to see you there!
