What we're about
"The democratic movement needed most today will begin in the classroom, with teachers who see beyond its walls. We desperately need a new generation of eduators who are creative, confident, bold, humble, present for their students, collaborative, dedicated to their field of study, and willing to fight strategically for their ideals.” — Bard MAT Director Stephen Mucher
Educators for These Times host meetups, mini-course, professional development opportunities for educators interested in ways to invigorate teaching and policy in Los Angeles. Our work focuses on both the immediate work of instruction in school settings and the social or institutional contexts of education in a democracy. Our members, including candidates, alumni, and partner teachers in the Bard Master of Art in Teaching Program (http://www.bard.edu/mat/la) explore big questions of social justice through the lenses of Ethnic Studies, environmental sustainability, participatory community research, and the arts and humanities.
We are interested in connecting pre-professionals with veteran educators, partnering secondary schools, community organizations, after-school initiatives, and arts and academic enrichment programs.
