Chicken Health and Home Remedies

  • May 18, 2013 · 1:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We all care very much about our chicken friends and want the best for them. We want them to be happy and healthy. Illness and injury are part of life and it's good to know what you can do at home to ease any illness and suffering.

We're working on a speaker/speakers but the best information will come each other. What has worked and what hasn't. We'll create a set of topics and if you want to add something please comment so we can work on getting you the information.

We'll discuss how to evaluate your flock's health on a regular basis.
Basic chicken anatomy
What are common signs and symptoms to look out for.
We'll discuss common diseases and medical problems.

Mites
Lice
Worms
Predator attack evaluation or other injury
Splay leg
Egg bound
Impacted crop
Molting
Broken beak
Ascites
etc....

...and thank you, Denise, for hosting us! Your garden was beautiful and the perfect set up for raising your girls. Lovely afternoon!

Thank you to Denise for hosting and letting us visit with her beautiful hens. Thanks to Chris and Amanda for all their knowledge. I think we could have kept on going for a while. There is something to being there in person that is so different from going on line or reading a book. If anyone is inspired to host please let me know.

Great! Very informative. I'm new to chicken tending and the information presented and shared my the other guests was well worth the drive and time.

I really enjoyed my first Meetup. Very informative. It was the first time I've seen another backyard flock. Loved the setting and the members in attendance had lot's of great information to share about their experiences.

Learned a ton! Sounds like bio security and keeping a first aid kit are critical to good chicken health.

eeeek, good thing you reminded me. I'll get all the eggs in her nest. There should be at least 4. Is that enough?

I just sent a message to Denise also. After reading the other posts I guess we'll just have to be patient!

Hey all. Generally, the address is posted about a week before the event. I know we're a week out right now, but I thought I'd let everyone know that it's not an outlier that the address hasn't been posted. Just FYI.

  • Kathy ~.

I just sent Denise a message asking her to at least acknowledge these requests for address. I'm concerned that it's not really happening since no one is even responding to any of these posts.

    Do we have an address?

I cannot attend this event but have a question for you. I have a small city lot and it is warm now and the flies are just awful. Sometimes I feel like throwing the towel. It is hard to enjoy your yard swarming with flies. I clean coop and run daily and keep it dry. How do you other SoCal owners manage. Flies carry so many germs.

Totally natural and compostable. Also I had moderate success with vanilla air fresheners in addition to the DE and PDZ.
