What we're about
Upcoming events (5)
This will be a road trip. This event is in the bottom (or top) of winter. ALL these places will be STUNNING with a dusting of snow!!!! This is intended to be a domestic vacation trip for the time between Christmas to New Years Eve. The general thumbnail is leave the day after Christmas, and return back to LA or San Fran on Jan 1 DAY ONE SF area or LA area to Camp Verde via the 10. This is 8 hrs hard driving. This will be the longest day with lots of nothing. Why stop at Camp Verde? It's a Wine Region. So we can hit wineries if we get in early enough. We can spend the night at the Krazy K RV Park (or any other place with a very kitsch sounding name). Then . . .the next morning NOW the trip really begins. This will be a true Road Trip. You are responsible for your own transport and lodging and food. As well as park entries. (notes on that below) Bookings: . . . For instance Antelope and Zebra will need a reservation. Our First Night stop will be reserved. However we may make it farther. In which case we stay in Sedona itself. Our second night will need to be reserved as GC does fill up. Third night onward will depend on too many factors. TRANSPORT: You can come solo (in your car). You can come in your car and take passengers and share costs. You can come as a passenger and offer to split gas among passengers. You can rent a van and then share the rental cost. You can Rent an RV and then share the cost. You can do a lot. Let's do it together. LODGING: If you do any option that involves a car you will need to get lodging each night. We are traveling in middle of winter (LOT OF VACANCIES) and stay in Hotel/Motel/No-Tell Motel. OR you can stay at kabins at KOA Kampgrounds. OR you can rent an RV and sleep in that and stay cheap at RV or KOA places (this is what Anna and I plan to do) FOOD If car you will have a cooler for road food and you will be buying meals as you go. IF RV . . . Food cost lower and shop at grocery stores. The Math: If car . . . the gas is cheaper and you have to pay more for lodging and food. If RV you have RV rental cost and pay more for that. Lower food and lodging cost. No living out of suitcases. But you do have higher gas cost. What now? This is definitely a bucket list type adventure. It is also tempered with safety and do-ability. This event embodies adventure and the romance of traveling to far off places. First of all, . . . this is NOT going up to the top of Everest (29,000). This is going to Everest Base Camp (17,600) also called EBC. Our starting elevation will be in Lukla at 9,400'. With all that said . . . this is VERY doable at any age. You do not need to be a marathon runner. The truth is if you can manage walking 3-6 hours a day, up and down a hill, while carrying a light pack, you will be OK! Professional guides and Porters to carry your gear are included. All that is left for you to carry is your water, snacks and camera. But I don't have the needed gear?! Our trip includes providing you with a North Face sleeping bag and parka, rated to -4F. As well as walking poles. So you don't have to buy them or pack in your suitcase. Does this include food? Yes. This includes meals. What is lodging like? Are we sleeping in tents? No. We are sleeping in a series of "Tea Houses" along the route. You will have bed in a shared room with roommate (from the group). Sorry, a solo room will not be available on this trip. We will pair up everybody. What if I get sick or hurt. By the way . . . how dangerous is this? This is NOT the summiting Everest with people dying from bad choices. We will be walking on an established, well used trail the entire time, and NOT on snow or ice. Stats from past years show that 30,000 people a year do the EBC trek. With all that said, . . . Our trip INCLUDES emergency insurance. For instance: this will cover a helicopter if needed. Plain and simple, safety is our primary goal. We will have an experienced guide and porters, and Anna and I will be along the entire way too. OK. How much does this cost? INCLUDING AIR departing from LA the TOTAL cost is: 18 days for ONLY $3,480 (this includes air!) If you want a breakdown to try and find a better flight, OR if you wish to use miles, OR if you wish to upgrade your flight, OR you are not flying out of LA Everest Base Camp Trip $2,290 (15 Day, land only) The (group) air portion $1,190 (departure LA) Non-Refundable Deposit of $250 to hold your place by Jan 15th. Balance due by Feb 18th There is not enough room on meetup to post the full detailed day to day itinerary. 11 days, 10 nights - $3,350 1-night Athens; 3-nights Crete; 3-nights Mykonos; 3-nights Santorini Includes air from LAX (excluding departure tax - see below); double occupancy hotel, domestic air, ferry, Acropolis tour and daily breakfast This is a repeat of our last Greece trip which is a land-based island hopping trip with flights and a ferry between the islands. We'll land in Athens on a Thursday morning and we'll tour the famous Acropolis and home of the Parthanon. The rest of the day will be at your leisure and with our hotel just minutes from the famous Platka you will enjoy strolling, shopping and eating. On Friday morning we’ll fly over to the island of Crete. Crete is the birthplace of the first European civilization, the Minoan, which flourished between 3000 BC and 1200 BC. We will organize optional tours to some of the key places including Knossos. We will be staying in Chania (see arrow on map) which is in and of itself a work of art and known as the Veniceof Crete. Much of the old town district of Chania was developed around its harbor, which was built by the Venetians during the 14th century. Its lighthouse still proudly overlooks the Mediterranean. After our 3-nights on Crete we'll be ready for the next stop - Mykonos for the next 3 nights. We will be flying over via Athens. This island is not only picturesque with it’s white buildings and blue trim, the narrow meandering streets with cutes hops and restaurants and famous windmills, it’s also THE place for nightlife with many Europeans who come here. We’ll have an optional tour set up that will take us on a 45 minute boat ride to the island of Delos, which is an entire city of ruins h no current inhabitants. You don't have to plan too much on this island as the old town is just a short walk from our hotel and makes for a nice, relaxing way to spend some time strolling and taking photos. Our hotel is beautiful with amazing views of the sea. Once again, early sign ups will be rewarded with the better view rooms. After our 3-nights on Mykonos it will be time for our last and most anticipated stop, the island of Santorini. We'll be taking a ferry which is smooth and only about a 2-hour trip. There is not a more magical island in the world You will absolutely fall in love with it. We will have optional tours set up including an all day tour by bus and then boat visiting the caldera via a nice wooden boat and even swimming to a natural hot springs! We depart Santorini on Sunday morning back to Athens and fly back that same day. It's great air wth Delta. This is the ideal introduction to the jewels of the Aegean. Cost: Just $3,350 with air from LAX (deduct $800 with your own air). SINGLE SUPPLEMENT: (your own room): $850 This is a terrific group savings for this trip and you will love our hotels.
