September Science Cafe - Chris Graney and "On the Fate of the Jovians"

UPDATE! Guest speaker change! Join us for September Science Cafe featuring Chris Graney and his talk "On the Fate of the Jovians" at 6:30 pm for dinner with the talk beginning at 7:30 pm. (Due to illness, Dr. Lee Alan Dugatkin's visit will have to be rescheduled.)

The Presentation

Chris Graney returns to Louisville Science Cafe to teach us more about the history of astronomy with his talk "On the Fate of the Jovians:  How the modern solar system was not envisioned until two centuries after Copernicus and Galileo, and who first envisioned it."

The Guest Speaker

Chris Graney is a professor of physics at Jefferson Community and Technical College in Louisville. His area of research is the history of science. His work has been featured by Nature and published in Scientific American, and his most recent publication is “War Marius als Astronom zu gut? Simon Marius, das Teleskop und das Problem der Sterngrößen während der copernicanischen Revolution” in Acta Historica Astronomiae 2016. Read his observatory newsletters and see a schedule of events at the Otter Creek - South Harrison Observatories here.

The Schedule

Arrive any time after 6:00. Eat and chat between 6:30 and 7:30. The presentation will begin at 7:30.

You are welcome to come just for the presentation, but if you intend to eat, please arrive and place your order by 7:00. After the presentation we will draw names for door prizes. As always, we will pass the collection box at the end of the meeting to collect $2 per person to cover expenses.

The Venue

We will be on the main floor of Over the 9 restaurant, downtown on 10th St., between Market and Main. It is just south on 10th from Caulfield's Costumes.

There is FREE parking in the Healing Place lot on the corner of Market and 10th. Note the signs say "Private Parking The Healing Place Only" but Over the 9 is allowed to use it at night. Street parking is free after 6 pm.

Over the 9 Menu here.

See you there!

Hahahaha. I'd venture to say that most agnostics are skeptics, Linda. Hope to see you there tonight :-)

Are skeptics and agnostics related, in a friendly way?
