The Allure of Participatory Plant Breeding
Miami University, Rm 218 in Pearson Hall, Oxford, OH
Friday, April 19, 2013 -- 3:15 p.m.
Dr. Frank Kutka, a plant breeder from North Dakota, will present a botany seminar, "The Allure of Participatory Plant Breeding."

During his talk he will discuss on-farm plant breeding and his work on the development of an open-pollinated corn variety for organic agriculture which would be resistant to contamination by GMO pollen.

At the end of that seminar (about 4:15 p.m.), there will be a post-seminar reception in Rm 314 of Pearson Hall which will last about 30-45 minutes.

Dr. Alfredo Huerta (Dept. of Botany, Miami University) invites anyone who might be interested in participating in his "Save Seeds Now" project for breeding locally-adapted vegetables for southwestern Ohio to attend the seminar, which is free and open to the public.

Dr. Huerta will host a small public workshop and discussion at 5 p.m. (at the end of the reception) with Dr. Kutka, to talk about the future of the local plant breeding project with regional farmers and growers.
