Here's an amazing fact about blood - there is no substitute.
Let's get together and give a life saving donation to boost CARTER BLOODCARE bloodbanks. They typically run short of blood in the summer and winter months....which means NOW.
Carter Bloodcare does a phenomenal job of testing donated blood and screening donors to ensure that every pint donated is safe and clean. After donating, donors are given a snack and/or a drink. You also have access to your cholesterol levels a few days after donating...all for the amazing price of FREE!
HOW OFTEN CAN YOU GIVE? For whole blood, every 56 days.
HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE? About an hour of your time...to save another life!
***IMPORTANT*** There are some restrictions based on:
(1) Travel outside the United States within the last 6 months to 3yrs. The restrictions are city/town specific, so even if you've travelled to a particular country, the city/town you travelled to may not be a problem. If you fall in this category, please call Carter BloodCare to ascertain eligibility to donate
(2) Age: Must be over 18yrs old
(3) Iron levels in your blood. Don't worry about this, they will test your blood (pain free finger stick) before the procedure. To be on the safe side, eat lots of Iron rich foods (beef, chicken, greens, liver...;) a day or two before donating. Avoid coffee if you can on the day you're donating - coffee depletes iron ;(
There are several Carter Bloodcare Centers across the metroplex (www.carterbloodcare.org/locations). Lets suggest some locations that are central/convenient enough for us to get to. They can also come to us but since we're volunteering, we would be helping them out a lot if we went to them ;).
Please suggest possible dates and times as well. I will contact them to organize the event(s) and presto...volunteer love and life saving blood to the rescue!
Here are a few more interesting facts about what your blood donation does:
Every year, approximately 4.5million american lives are saved through blood transfusions. Children with cancer and undergoing heart transplant surgery need blood. Severe burn victime need alot of platelets to support clotting as they undergo treatment.
One pint of blood equals one pound - you lose a pound every time you donate!
