This group intends to organize jam sessions which are not necessarily meant as an open mic for musicians to perform a pre-established setlist. The intention, instead, is to gather musicians who might or might not know each other and start improvising together. However, other kinds of events might be organized, like casual drinks to meet other fellow musicians or picnics in the park bringing our instruments to play some music in the open air.
This means to achieve various objectives:
- Fostering connections with other musicians and possibly paving the way to the creation of new bands and musical collaborations
- Improving our improvisational skills in a setting of cooperation and mutual help
- Providing a stress-free environment for jamming to musicians of all levels, including beginners who might not have much experience playing with other musicians and who might not feel ready to participate in jam sessions in pubs, in front of an audience
All kinds of music are accepted, from jazz standards to rock, from pop to funk, to any other style. Jams might involve complex chord progressions or simple improvisations on just a couple of chords, depending on the level of the musicians.
First meetings will be organized once enough members are reached (some are not listed here in MeetUp). Location of the meetings will probably be the Music Club of the European Union (membership is required, only 35 euros for one whole year and the music room can be used for free) or the Centre Culturel Altrimenti (still in discussion) or possibly others to be found. The rooms have a piano but further equipment (instruments, small amplifiers, microphones, portable percussions like bongos, tambourines, cajons or small drumsets...) should most likely be brought by each musician for him/herself at each jam, at least until a more permanent solution is found. Here's the address and the website of the music rooms:
