Fauvism was the first modern movement of the 20th century which celebrated colour discovered by the impressionists in the previous century. Painting in the French seaside town of Collioure in the summer of 1905, Matisse and Derain, and used explosive colour to express their joy before nature, earning themselves the nickname of Fauves ( wild beasts ) some years later in Germany, colour again became the principal feature of somewhat more angular, primitive and more germanic style in the art of the so called "Die Brucke" artists
