Fulltext Indexing – Gateway to searching unstructured data
Keith Brockman, DBA Public Service Commission of Wisconsin
You may ask ‘What is Full-Text indexing?’ What do I need to do to get Full-text indexing and configure it? How do I use T-SQL predicates to search? Come learn from the ground up what full-text indexing is and learn how to search docx, pdf’s and other non-structured documents stored in varchar and varbinary data types.
Keith has been a Database Administrator since 1997. He got his start at the University of Wisconsin System Administration moving data off the mainframe to Oracle databases in order to solve the Y2K problem. Keith then went into the Department of Transportation managing many highway construction Oracle databases that are integrated into ESRI GIS. Keith's latest adventure is working for the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Wisconsin for the last 5 years. The PSC has regulatory authority over water, gas, electric, and sewer utilities provided by municipalities and investor owned utilities. When regulating utilities the PSC receives many pdf’s uploaded to their SQL Server databases and use Full-text indexing for searching the vast amounts of unstructured data – ie pdf’s.
