Aspiring woodworkers will be familiarized with the shop environment, learn the safe and proper use of many common woodworking tools, and several woodworking techniques. Tool instruction will include the safe and proper usage of the table saw, surface planer, clamps, band saw, stationary sanders, palm sanders, and carving tools. Other techniques may be introduced, as time permits. There will also be lectures on safety, wood species, and finishing. Using the skills instructed, each student will complete a cutting board of their very own design and handy-work. Do to the restrictions of time and materials costs, we will be restricted in the overall size and scope of what we can do. However, there will be an opportunity for everyone to utilize their creativity, and personalize their cutting boards. Class Fee: $75. Materials Fee: All materials are included. Time: Noon - 6pm (please arrive early to get settled) Bring: lunch, bottle of water Dress: Comfortable, form fitting casual clothing, appropriate for a shop environment. We will tour the shop and notate general location of all of our tools, discuss safety protocols and expectations of each guest, and offer advice as to how to best prepare to use our platform safely and confidently.   • New Maker Orientation

    If you are ready to join MAKE! as a full time member; you must attend the New Maker Orientation. During this meetup, we will dive deep into all the idiosyncrasies of our workshop such as protocols and etiquette of using our space, waste / recycling systems, emergency procedures, where the light-switches are located, where to order the best sandwiches in the neighborhood, etc. It takes about an hour or so depending on how many guests participate. At the end you will have the information you need to use our shop safely and confidently on your own. Everyone should come prepared to pay their first month's dues, including storage fees, and a $100 refundable deposit for a key to the workshop. (We accept cash, check, Chase Quick Pay, and Venmo). Please consider in advance which membership package you prefer, and how much storage you will need to determine your total dues per month.
