MAKE! Chicago is a community workshop with woodworking, welding, and metal fab tools. We offer affordable access to local artists and craftsman to explore, learn, create and grow.
During Open Shop, authorized guests have access to our tools, space to work, and assistance from our staff and other community members to help take on larger, more ambitious projects.
If you have a DIY project you've been meaning to get to, need a push in the right direction on how to build or fix something, or just don't have the tools to take on a new project, OPEN SHOP TIME is what you need in your life!
Restore an old dresser! Reupholster old dining chairs! Build a table from old pallets! Lathe turn a home-made bat! Grab a pile of scrap metal and do some recreational welding! Create stretcher bars for a canvas! Grab a friend for creative bonding time.
Whatever your project or idea, we have the tools and know how to help you be creative and successful.
Guests may arrive and go anytime between 10 and 6. But we recommend getting to the shop as early as you can to make the best use of the space and get your money's worth.
Prerequisites: You must have been through the shop authorization and signed a waiver to enter the space and do work.
Fees: $45 per person per day.
Materials included: No. You must bring your own materials, hardware, finishes, and consumables.
Instruction: This activity is self directed. We will point you in the right direction and assist as needed. But you are in charge of planning, designing and building your project.
A bit of advice: Make a plan and come prepared! Choose a project and make clear goals. Gather up the materials you need beforehand. Do some research on what you are trying to do. And feel free to reach out to us if you need assistance planning. We'll do the best we can to help.
Hope you can MAKE! it.
