Lakota Wolf Preserve

I have been wanting to visit the Lakota Wolf Preserve for quite some time, and thought it might be a good meet-up.

Meet up at 8:15 - southern part of the lot, near the gas station

KSU: 8:30 am SHARP (please have breakfast beforehand)

It takes about 90 minutes to get there, and we need to arrive around 10:00 or so, to sign in and register for a 'wolf watch'. They have ‘wolf watches’ at 10:30 and at 4:00. We'll do the early watch, then ride to a lunch spot, then ride home.

The ride up to the preserve will be slab – Parkway, 287, 206 and 80 – approx 75 miles. I plan to do about 65-70mph, right lane or center lane as needed.

Return trip via scenic roads (521, 519, 31, 523, 605, 518) – estimate 90 miles at Speed limit (or +5 to 10 mph where feasible)

I’d like to limit this ride to 20 riders, for safety - I have 2 volunteers to help lead - thanks!

If there is even the slightest chance of rain, I will cancel the ride, but not the actual meet-up, since we can still drive up there from the meet-up location.

The Preserve is co-located with Camp Taylor, and I am told they have a van that takes us from the Camp parking lot (bluestone, not paved) to the wolves' enclosures.

I have also been told that we have the option of walking, or taking the van.

They also require sturdy shoes or boots – you will not be permitted to go up to the Preserve if you are wearing open-backed shoes, sandals (or flip-flops – sorry, Hemi).

Admission is $16.05 – CASH only – payable at the Camp store; we will sign in and register at the Camp store, then go see the wolves.

Please come with a full tank of gas, or gas up at the rest area in Cheesequake. We can refuel after the wolf watch, on the way to lunch.

Sad news, but Jim from Lakota Wolf Preserve let folks know that Kimba, who was almost 15, passed away yesterday.

The riders in the group are what make the ride fun, interesting and worth while. You all were great - staying together, tolerating my un-spirited pace, and for ultimately helping the wolf preserve. MCK rocks!

cool! I pre-drove it and you'll see that I selected Frog Pond Rd + Wishing Well Rd to get there, vs Mt Pleasant rd. Mt Pleasant is waaaaay toooooo steep.

I will soon get back to riding with you all. I've had a good time riding the group and miss it. The wolf preserve ride sounds real nice but it is the same date as Rolling Thunder on Sept 14. Is there a change the wolf ride date? I'll be back soon on my red VFR. I haven't ridden wiht Bill since he got his VFR which I recommended.
    Thanks.
