Emmet, Sorry you missed the event that was in 2505 Van Munching Hall. I have requested the event slides and will post. I had the opportunity to speak in depth with Elliot Menschick who was the Dreamit partner at the event and I'd be happy to share any insights... if you have specific questions you can email me at kcrowley (at) rhsmith.umd.edu or we could find a time to chat. Best, Kenyon -I'll look into having team put up better signage in future.

Thanks Kenyon. I met Elliot last night at the JHU DreamIT event and understand thoroughly what they are doing. Absolutely great work they're involved in!

Thanks to all who attended, supported, and participated in today's kickoff event! The panelists and companies did a fantastic job showcasing the challenges and opportunities in this space. I am very much looking forward to engaging with each of you in future events. As I mentioned, this is a grassroots effort, so please do contribute your ideas as we move forward. Between events, we'll be posting things for feedback to make sure this effort is meaningful for all involved. Thanks again to all for such a great kickoff event today!

Does anyone attending have experience with SBIR contracts through HHS or more specifically NCI? My company is looking into the possibility of going after one and are open to teaming with other people or organizations.

    October 29, 2013

    • Mark S.

@Craig - thanks. I will try to find Kenyon tomorrow and if not reach out over the internet afterward. My only concern though is that I, nor my company, is based in MD.

      October 29, 2013

    • Jason B.

Mark, generally speaking you don't need to be in the same location as your partners on an SBIR application. That said, the reviewers often look at the team and the prior successes of the team. If you are working with a partner with whom you have no prior relationship, you want to be sure that the partner has significant prior successes under the SBIR program.

Would like to start some smaller breakout groups/roundtables where liked minded individuals and companies can come together to identify synergies, discuss hot topics and identify opportunities to work together. A more intimate setting to discuss ideas in more detail. Some areas might include patient engagement, mobile device design and hardware, security and privacy, integration , etc. thoughts...

The Risk of Small Providers affects us All; Identifying and Managing Privacy and Security Risks in Vulnerable Populations

    Did you know?
Approximately 90% of smaller providers, clinics and hospitals have not yet met Meaningful Use and HIPAA Security and Privacy Rule requirements

Greater use of electronic health records, data exchanges and ePrescribe networks is increasing data breach risks

Use of mobile technology by clinicians and staff also increases the risks that personal health information will be compromised

A breach by a small provider can quickly ripple through the new interconnected environment affecting large and small organizations
