IMPORTANT NOTE: Space is very limited, please do not attend if you do not have a spot on the guest list. I've been working a lot with React lately and thought it would be a good idea to share what I've learned with the group. During this talk we'll take a look at Facebook's React library while drawing comparisons to frameworks like Angular. We'll see how we can use React and friends to create a fast and efficient single page app. Attendees are expected to have some familiarity with ES6/ES7 since we the codebase we will be looking at leverages features from the spec. What we'll be taking a look at: • React • React Router • Redux • Redux Sagas • Webpack • Babel Speaker: Jamal O'Garro I'm a former finance guy on the business side turned finance guy on the tech side that also loves entrepreneurship and NYC startup culture. • A Deeper Look at TypeScript + A Look at Ionic 2

Last year we briefly took a look at TypeScript. This time let's take a deeper dive into the language, it's main features and how it extends the JavaScript programming language. We'll also look at how to use it to build a simple application and will discuss some lessons learned while building with it in production. We'll also be taking a look at Ionic 2.0, the newest version of the Ionic hybrid mobile development framework. Ionic 2.0 uses both TypeScript and Angular 2.0 so this talk will also serve as a continuation of the first talk as well a light introduction to ng2. Be there or be square! Speakers: Felicia O'Garro - Software Engineer Jamal O'Garro - Software Engineer Agenda 6:00 - doors open 6:30 - lightening talks and announcements 7:00 PM - talks start 7:45 - 9:00 PM - networking

  • November Monthly Meetup

    Talener's Office

Presentation Title - Microservices Architecture for MEAN Apps using Serverless Environments from AWS Description - Digital platforms are by nature resource intensive, expensive to build, and difficult to manage at scale. What if we can change this perception and help MEAN developers architect a digital platform that is low cost and low maintenance? This session describes the underlying architecture behind www.deep.mg, the microservices marketplace built by Mitoc Group and powered by AWS abstracted services like AWS Lambda, Amazon CloudFront, and Amazon DynamoDB. Eugene Istrati, the CTO of Mitoc Group, will dive deep into their approach to microservices architecture on serverless environments and demonstrate how anyone can architect AWS abstracted services to achieve high scalability, high availability, and high performance without huge efforts or expensive resources allocation. Presenter - Eugene Istrati has spent over 15 years as a technologist in a variety of industries, including digital media, cloud computing, and reputation marketing. His understanding of business needs is combined with his passion and awareness of new technology trends. Mr. Istrati holds a dual Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science and a Master of Science degree in Computer Science and Engineering. Company - Mitoc Group is a web development studio that focuses on enterprise applications and platforms. Our mission is to enable businesses and developers to provide high-value products and services in a constantly changing digital world. Mitoc Group is also the creator of Digital Enterprise End-to-end Platform (also known as DEEP). DEEP is low cost and low maintenance Platform-as-a-Service powered by abstracted services (also known as serverless environments) from AWS.

  • TDD Your AngularJS + Ionic Directives With jQuery

In this talk, I'll cover how to use Karma and AngularJS 1.4 for testing your directives at the level of user interactions. In other words, you'll learn to write mocha tests that use jQuery to interact with real DOM elements and assert your directives do the right thing in any browser. I'll build out a form using mongoose's isomorphic component for form validation and show how to use gulp to compile this directive for use in the browser as well as in Ionic framework hybrid mobile apps. About the Speaker Valeri Karpov is a NodeJS Engineer for MongoDB and maintains numerous MongoDB-related npm modules. He's the author of Professional AngularJS and gave the MEAN stack its name.
