SURVIVOR WEEKEND - Adventure: Kokopelli 2013 - Camping, Games, and Fun!

  • shelly lake campground

123 check map, Manistee National Campground, MI (map)

  • I am posting this event for Kirk because it basically represents everything this group stands for; adventure, fun, nature, camping, and making friends. Katie and I competed in a similar event of his years ago (posted by BK, MAC’s founder) and were winning the entire time until I messed up the second to last event. We were winning the second time we did it but were rained out with terrible storms. And the third time we participated I did pretty well but Katie won the entire thing! It’s basically an amazing experience for everyone, not just the winners.

All questions must be sent to Kirk, not me, because I am not running this event. I hope to be there but I’m not yet positive. RSVPing here indicates your interest but you are not part of the event until you officially register with the link and pay.

Manistee National Forest, BrohmanMI (edit map)

    http://adventure-kokopelli.wikia.com/wiki/Adventure:_Kokopelli_Wiki?file=Kokopelli_2012_Teaser

Location - Shelley Lake, Manistee National Forest, near Brohman, MI -- very drivable!

The cost - Currently the price is set at $55 for individuals and $90 for pairs. This will go up in May. This cost covers supplies, rentals of the site, administration fees for the National Forest, and sports insurance as well.

A camping adventure just like the greatest one on TV! I have been hosting events like this for nearly a decade and this one is in its 7th (SEVENTH!!!) iteration!!! First off, there will be NO starvation, or crazy intense life-threatening challenges, but you will get dirty. ;) The game plays out like this - Players on the initial night are divided into teams, usually randomly, and players play in reward and immunity challenges trying to stay in the game. Challenges are akin to things you would see on reality shows like Survivor and Amazing Race. Rewards give clues to hidden immunity totems, and immunity keeps you or your team safe from the dreaded elimination round, where one team sacrifices one player. Only the greatest warrior will outlast the rest and become the winner of Kokopelli.

Frequently, we get asked, well what happens if I get eliminated first? First off, don't worry, in our events, you will ALWAYS have something you can do, and you will in fact play in the game every day, regardless of the order of elimination.

More info about the game: http://thegameofadventure.webs.com/rulesregulations.htm

You can click going here. But to truly register, go here: http://thegameofadventure.webs.com/applyhere.htm

Some specs: There is no drinkable water on site. You need to bring your own drinking water. Driving into town is an option, but there is limited time that you could leave and come back. You will need a tent or shelter of some kind. And bring clothing for all types of weather! Itineraries are handed out on site. Players are also expected to sign a Liability Waiver prior to the event.

If you would rather camp out and watch the event unfold, please sign up as a Spectator ($15 pass for the weekend.) We are only allowed to sell 10 maximum spectator passes for the weekend per guidelines with our contacts at the National Forest. You don't need to register for this, just go to the Registration Fee page on the website and pay for a "Spectator Pass."

Campers will be asked to sign up to join a meal share for the weekend. People who elect to join the meal share will prepare one meal for the weekend only, the other meals will be provided by other members of the meal share.  Highly recommended!

Hi guys - I mentioned this on facebook. I had to cancel because we did not get in enough per-registration fees to cover the sporting insurance component in time. This was mandated by the National Forest. This was my first event dealing with insurance - I could not guarantee that I would be getting in the minimum for the premium, and I could not personally afford the premium myself. I will be looking into other options for future events. Thanks for your interest everyone and a huge thank you to Jim for posting the event for me.
