A no questions asked Christmas event for the rest of us...

12/21 Update #2:
Anyone can go on the hike- even if the event is "full"- just put yourself on the waiting list. If the event is full, that just means I might not be able to accommodate any more people at the restaurant. There is still a good chance you can join us for dinner but I cannot guarantee it.

12/21 Update #1:
The Chinese place will be crowded that day and I need to give a count. If you are planning to go to the Chinese restaurant, you need to inform me either by emailing me or by posting it on this event. I cannot guarantee you a spot if you do not tell me you are going. If you RSVP yes but then change your mind, you need to tell me that, too.

The Plan:
We shall hike around Stoney Creek for 7-8 miles (about 3 hours) at a moderate pace and then eat very good Chinese food. Simple, elegant, and no presents unless you feel inclined to buy the hike leader a beer. We will meet at the parking lot by the Nature Center at Stoney Creek.

Warning:
Some maps shows that you can get to the meeting spot by taking Inwood road, which is just north of the parking area, to Park Road. This is a service route only. Do not take this route. You need to enter Stoney Creek at Shelby road or 26 mile road (southern end of park) and then it is about another 6 miles to the meeting spot. So, give yourself a little extra time.

Warning #2:
Usually, we are dog friendly, but dogs are not allowed on the trails we will be hiking.

Costs:
Odds are there will be no one manning the gate but just in case... Stoney Creek is a Metropark and cost $5 for a day pass, $30 for a yearly pass, or $54 for a combined Oakland County/ Metroparks yearly pass.

Afterwards:
Dinner at my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Detroit area, East Lake Chinese (http://www.eastlakerestaurant.com/). Address: 5087 Rochester Rd Troy, MI 48085. It is on the northwest corner of Long Lake and Rochester Road. This place is pretty authentic (no stir fry with gravy here).

After the afterwards:
I am sure there will be a bar open if we so desire. Or, alternatively, we can go on a night hike. Or, we can go back home. But I am guessing if you are doing this event that you would not mind being away from home this day.
