We will meet at the trail head parking lot near the two outhouses. We will hike the 6-mile yellow loop.
The GPS coordinates at the meeting point for the hike are:[masked], [masked]
We'll hike the yellow loop counterclockwise. It's about 6 miles. If you see a bike , yell BIKE and step to the right. The trail is shared with bikes who ride in the opposite direction (so they will be coming at us). There may be a few bikes riding at night with bright lights.
A headlamp or flashlight is required! The hike will take place entirely after dark - and there are no lights on the trail. I have a few spares to loan out, if you forget to bring a light. The pace will be no faster than 3 miles/hour (20 min./mile) but I am fine with a slower pace, if that's what the majority of the group wants.
Here's the route we'll take (highlighted in yellow):
After the hike:
For anyone interested, we'll be stopping by the Draught Horse Brewery, just down the road, in Lyon Township, to replenish the calories we will have undoubtedly disencumbered.
Directions (map) to Draught Horse Brewery from Island Lake:
Recreational Passport required. You may be ticketed if you don't have a recreational passport on your vehicle. The penalty for Michiganders is $16 which just happens to be the cost of the year long pass (and they will mail you the pass after you pay the fine...so you are essentially buying a pass).
