What is your current backpacking experience?

intermediate - some short trips on AT in PA&MD, some weekend trips in VA and MI (including Round Island and South Manitou Island). Winter backpacking in Appalachians. Outdoors instructor for 3 years at a camp for overpriviledged kids.

Do you own a backpack, sleeping bag and tent?

whole garage full of stuff...nothing fancy, old Jan Sport frame plus newer Kelty internal frame pack. I have "old faithful" comfy M1949 sleeping bag (need to trade in for lighter alternative) have switched to alcohol for cooking fuel.

What's your favorite place to camp in Michigan?

Manistee River Trail-Nice!. Last fall on a solo hike I watched the big dipper circle the pole star from a small little used site on a quiet bluff overlooking the river - priceless... I also like South Manitou Island - Had a recent solo trip with plenty moonlight only night hiking. I love this place!!

What types of outdoor activities are you especially looking to do?

hiking, exploring, history of technology / industrial architecture. Want to learn outdoor photography, outdoor cooking skills (edibles, mushroom hunting), yoga (to stay flexible), Innovative/alternative methods (DIY gear, ultralight gear, etc.)

Seeking to share love of outdoors and joy of being alive with other joyful folks. past experience: backpacking, whitewater, skydiving, climbing instructor. Poem: To a Skylark, Food: Pasta!, Truck: Dodge M37, Book: Unbearable Lightness of Being
