Meditation Hike @ Umstead State Park (Company Mill Trail)

We'll be starting at 9AM to "beat the heat;" this is about a 6-mile loop trail with lots of ups-and-downs and rocks/tree roots throughout.  We'll be walking the circle counter-clockwise.  Please be sure you have recent experience walking this distance, this terrain and in warm weather.  I'm guess-timating ~ 3 hours to walk, including the two :10 minute standing/sitting meditations.

This trail is an absolute delight, and the trail is well shaded this time of year.  We'll walk and talk on the out-and-back section of this trail at the beginning and end of this hike; then, shift into silence at the bridge that crosses the creek and starts the circular section of the trail.  We'll begin and end our loop silence with :10 minutes of sitting/standing meditation (potentially setting intention or journaling as well) on the creek-side rocks (or higher up, if crowded) which will bookend the silent section of our walk.

Since this loop has 3-sections (trisected by the bike trails) we'll use it similar to how we'd use a labyrinth (i.e., 1-release, 2-receive/silence, and 3-return/gratitudes) ... more about this when we meet.  Please carry water with you for this walk; and, a journal/pen if you plan on writing.  Here's a trail map:  Umstead State Park

Post hike, those who'd like to grab lunch/brunch afterwards, we'll be heading to the nearby Café Carolina & Bakery (137 Weston Pkwy, Cary).

Thank you Leslie and the group! I really enjoyed the hike and came home feeling wonderful!
Lunch and especially our conversation was inspiring as well.

I too enjoyed the connectedness of the hike (with nature, with self) and then the connectedness with others over food.

I really enjoyed the hike and meeting everyone. The meditation spot on the rocks was wonderful. Thanks Leslie! I won't be able to join in August but look forward to September's.

Yes, the rocks are the best. I've been spending time on them for 25+ years ... I know where all of the lizards live!

A very positive first-time experience for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the conversations I had with fellow attendees and of course, the meditation hike led by Leslie. Although I took a long nap afterwards, I am looking forward to the next one!

Glad that you were able to find us before the start of the hike ... we usually have a few "grace minutes" after the scheduled time that a hike starts to help with those who are a bit lost or a bit late.

This is the first time that we've book-ended the Company Mill Trail hike with :10 sitting meditations on the river rocks before and after the loop ... I found sitting by the river calming, mesmerizing and connecting (with nature, and self). Four of us headed out to nosh afterwards and enjoyed getting to know each other a bit more (I hope more of you will join us when we grab a bite afterwards ... we'll do this every 3-months or so).

I have come down with something that has taken my energy and I don't want to get anyone else sick. I've been up all night sweating and coughing. Sorry guys, see you next time :-)
