We'll be meeting at the kiosk that is at the trailhead for the Peninsula Trail. Once in the park, follow the signs to the kids playground which is near the trailhead. To get to the park, from U.S. 1 South, take exit #89. Turn left on New Hill-Holleman Road. The park is 2.8 miles on the right.
We'll be walking the Peninsula Trail, then towards the end of this circular walk, we'll be connecting up with the History Trail. This is one of the flattest places to walk since it follows the shoreline of Harris Lake, and the trail surface is relatively flat - either dirt or pine straw - and few tree roots. The overall walk is about 5 miles - plan on 2 hours for the walk, plus time before to come together as a group and talk about the trails and a suggested meditation; and, time afterwards to journal. Please sign-up only if you're experienced with walks of this length.
This walk has wonderful views of Harris Lake on one side for almost all of the walk, and intersects with many inlets and ponds. While I was out walking the trail it was a cacophony of bird chirps, frog ribbits, motorboat engines, and lapping waves.
Although most of the trail is forrested, we'll be starting at 9:30AM to dodge some of the June heat, and some of the noise from recreational boaters.
Please bring water, and a journal and pen.
