We will be beginning a new book, The Struggles for Poland (1988) by Neal Ascherson. This book was written as a companion to a TV series by the BBC which was also broadcast on PBS. The book is no longer in print, but used and new copies, both hardcover and paperback, can be found in used bookshops and online for very reasonable prices. There is no ebook version. For the 30th, we will read the first five chapters. As a bonus, at least some of the television programs are available on Youtube. You thus have no excuse not to become the neighborhood expert on the history of Poland. That's better than a lot of other things I can think of being.
