The Experienced Rider Club: We Ride...
Welcome to the Minnesota Motorcycle Touring Club (MMTC). The MMTC is open to experienced adult riders with good riding skills on any brand of motorcycle.
A typical ride is 150 to 350 miles and includes interesting paved roads that are twisty and winding with a variety of curves and terrain. The ride leader will pause at stop signs and turns to allow the group to reform. Groups are usually 8 to 12 riders; if there are more riders than that we will break up into multiple groups. Riders new to the club begin their first club ride in the back half of the group until they are familiar with the group and riding style.
Rides are posted as casual, moderate or spirited pace rides. All members are welcome to participate on all rides. Each rider will be riding a pace that is comfortable for them. Ride pace is defined by the approximate speed in the curves above the posted advisory speeds as follows:
~Casual: Plus 5 to 15 MPH
~Moderate: Plus 10 to 20 MPH
~Spirited: Plus 15 to 25 MPH
The straights are generally at or near the speed limit.
Established riding skills are required to safely participate in MMTC rides. Those skills include:
· Rides their own ride and has the self-discipline to ride with faster riders without the need to keep up
· Does not routinely brake in curves and corners
· Establishes and holds a good cornering line with appropriate lean angle
· Does not cross the center line or fog line
· Does not have a need to be ostentatious or show off
Safety is important. Drugs and alcohol use is not permitted on club rides. Participants are required to wear a DOT approved motorcycle helmet and motorcycle specific designed motorcycle jacket. Riders are also encouraged to wear, riding pants, boots and gloves.
Is there any cost to belonging to MMTC?
There are no costs or dues.
Who leads the rides?
Any member can lead a ride. We encourage all members to share their favorite destinations, roads, adventures, or experiences by leading a club ride. If you are interested in leading a ride contact any Board member.
What happens if the weather is bad?
If the ride is canceled the web site will be updated early in the morning the day of the ride.
If you are an experienced rider with solid riding skills and this type of riding appeals to you, please join us for a ride.
