SPECIAL VEG-UP WITH COMPASSION OVER KILLING Exciting change of plans this month! Erica Meier, Executive Director of Compassion Over Killing invited us to share lunch at their office.
http://www.cok.net/... Erica will discuss her organization, and show a short powerpoint to help us get more informed and involved with animal advocacy. (Nothing graphic!) The office is at 6930 Carroll Ave., #910 Takoma Park, MD 20912 Inside the Takoma Business Center (see photo), across from CVS, less than two blocks from the Takoma Metro station. There's also free parking behind the building. The Center also has Willow Street Yoga, Sligo Computer Services, FairVote.org , Center For A New American Dream, LTG, Studio 405, MacLab, Center for Health and Gender Equity, TruVoteMD, VegDC.com, and more. It should fit up to 20 of us comfortably. We'll have a waiting list, so if there's no space when you try to sign up, please try the waiting list--people tend to change their minds and spaces will open. RSVPs close at 11 AM so we know how much and what to order, and have time to pick it up. We're asking you to pay $15 in advance due to limited capacity, to make sure we have enough food, and so everything works out. Please make arrangements with me at[masked] / [masked] if you can't or don't use PayPal. We're setting it to "zero guests" so people who want to join us must sign up separately to avoid confusion. To bring guests who don't want to sign up, please contact me at[masked] / [masked] and we'll accommodate you and your guests if possible. Thanks! We will pick up 100% vegan food from My Little Bistro (known for delicious vegan “chicken” sandwiches), Middle Eastern Cuisine (hummus, tabouleh, and falafel sandwiches), and possibly pizza and/or noodle dishes from Mark’s Kitchen. Although these places serve vegan and non-vegan food, everything we get will be 100% vegan. Ideally we'll get to share and have a real feast! (See menus below). Please pay the $15 in advance online if at all possible. You can't RSVP without paying online (if you don't like PayPal--please make arrangements with me at[masked] / [masked] so I can enter your RSVP) Please be patient about any delays with processing RSVPs, and understand if we run out of spaces before I can get back to you. Online RSVPs will get done more quickly because they're automatic and I'm just a volunteer--actually I'm paying out of pocket--to run this group as well as I can. :-) Some members didn't pay for 2010. We're a few hundred dollars short for 2009 and 2010. The Meetup website charges $19 per month, and we haven't be collecting enough. We need everyone to pay $15 for 2011 to keep the Veg Up going. We're planning some exciting things this year and we want your input too! PLEASE answer the questions about what you want us to pick up for you when you RSVP. Please request food that costs up to about $10, or contact me to make arrangements for more. We'll use extra money to pay for beverages (tell us what you want) plus tax & tip, cover anyone who can't pay etc. If we have any left over, we can apply it to the short-fall from past years. Refund only if you cancel at least 24 hours in advance, or if we get snowed out, or have to cancel the event. Here are the online menus (not all items are vegan, please order carefully): My Little Bistro:
