What we're about

Macalester College Pipe Band is for folks looking to play bagpipes, or Highland snare, tenor, or bass drum with great community of people. We are dedicated to having fun and pursuing musical excellence together.

We welcome all folks interested in playing this music, from those with zero experience to those with excellent skills.

We are made up of two bands, a more beginner/Grade 5 band and a more advanced/Grade 3 one. We perform across the Twin Cities and compete each year in the Midwest, Canada, and on the West Coast.

**Absolute beginners** with an interest in learning to play are encouraged to get in touch! You would start off by taking lessons with one of the instructors in the band and then move into playing with the Grade 5 band as you learn the repertoire.

If you decide to join us, here’s what you’ll be doing:

- The two bands have weekly rehearsal Wednesday evenings at Macalester College year-round. Grade 5: 6:15 - 8 pm, Grade 3: 7 - 9:30 pm

- Occasional performances in the summer and fall, usually ~6-8, include parades, sports games, and twice yearly concerts.

- Competitions: Both bands compete in 3-4 competitions a year including the Chicago and Minnesota Highland Games. We have also recently competed in: Winnipeg, Milwaukee, San Francisco, and Pennsylvania.
