Per MAMM policy, cellphone use by members during a movie is prohibited.  We request that you put away your phones once the previews start. If you need to check your phone for any reason, please exit the auditorium.

For (new) members: Please take the time to rate the event (not the movie) afterwards. Written feedback on the wall is also welcome if you want to talk about the movie or other things. Thanks!

****The movie is no longer showing at Empress Walk.  I want to still see it, so I'm moving it to Canada Square.

I'll choose a different movie to watch at Empress Walk for the following Tuesday.  I'll post that one next Wednesday.  I still want to earn the 3x Scene Pts!

Wow, a movie that's scored 99% on Rotten Tomatoes!  And the reviews on IMDB sound good.  I think this movie is worth a look!

By the way, if you have a Scene card, if you watch a movie at Empress Walk between June 14 and July 14, you earn 3x the Scene Pts. I'm not sure if that includes multiple viewings, or just one.

Mud

Movie synopsis:

Two boys, Ellis and his friend Neckbone, find a man named Mud hiding out on an island in the Mississippi. Mud describes fantastic scenarios-he killed a man in Texas and vengeful bounty hunters are coming to get him. He says he is planning to meet and escape with the love of his life, Juniper, who is waiting for him in town. Skeptical but intrigued, Ellis and Neckbone agree to help him. It isn't long until Mud's visions come true and their small town is besieged by a beautiful girl with a line of bounty hunters in tow.

I liked the contrast between the two young boys; naivete vs street smarts. I also liked how the slow-paced town was captured in the shots and pacing of the film; space and time were leisurely and people generally went about their business unhurriedly while still looking out for each other. The ending of the film could have been more realistic for Mud; as a mystery leaving us to wonder even more just as his presence on the island in the beginning of the film was mysterious and unfolded. Ellis' face when he saw the three girls in the townhouse complex, was real and lovely!

I did enjoy the movie. However, I do agree with Phil that it was a bit slow, but I felt it did build in suspense. I also felt that it could have been edited down by about 20 minutes. I DID NOT like the ending!!!

I thought the movie was just okay. I'm not sure if it deserved 99% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. Those critics must have watched a completely different movie. I found the pacing a bit slow, and the ending felt a bit like it was tagged on there. The kids acting was great, Matt was good. Thanks for coming out!

Just bought my ticket. FYI, if you have a Scene Card and you use it on the purchase, it knocks off 10% (it goes from $6.50 to $5.85)

I don't think O'll be able to come though I want to see it.

I've just checked the current movie listings and Mud is no longer playing at Empress Walk. It looks like it is playing at Yonge and Dundas, Canada Square and the Carlton.

Whoops! Thanks for checking, I thought I had posted it on Tuesday when the new listings went up. I guess I'll have to pick an Empress Walk movie for the following Tuesday. For now, we'll do Mud at Canada Square at Yonge & Eglinton. It's nice and quiet there!

I was planning to see this film a couple of weeks ago and just this past weekend, I had decided to see it this upcoming Wednesday. Now, I am very glad that the group has decided to see this movie. This is great!
