Drug War (95% on Rotten Tomatoes) ENG subtitles (lottery for 2 tickets)

The film distributor is giving me two tickets to raffle off to the attendees of this meetup, so two of you will see the film for free. I have no idea of what to expect as it is opening night and a foreign film, so who knows. Here's what I'll do; I will randomly draw the winning names at 5pm Monday August 5th, that way we will know who has won and can then purchase tickets on line. Please only sign up to attend because you want to see the films regardless of winning a free ticket.

I thought it would be nice to meet earlier then go to Shoeless Joe's as it is close by and reasonably priced.

The film is in Mandarin with English subtitles. Synopsis is below.

Drug War opened in New York last Friday where it was the best reviewed film of the week (including Blue Jasmine and Fruitvale Station), currently sitting at 95% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes after receiving four star reviews from The New York Post, Slant Magazine, and The New York Metro.

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xypwVUFuGkk&feature=youtu.be

Synopsis: One of the premiere action directors in the world, Hong Kong's Johnnie To (The Mission, PTU, Exiled) comes blazing back to the screen with his literally explosive new thriller, the first of his action opuses to be set in Mainland China. After his narcotics factory goes up in a ball of flame, drug manufacturer Choi Tin-ming (longtime To veteran Louis Koo) is captured by hard-nosed cop Zhang Lei (Sun Honglei), who is spearheading a sting operation against a massive narcotics network. Coerced by the threat of the death penalty to turn informant, Choi takes Zhang undercover into the narcotics pipeline — but as Zhang Lei gets deeper and deeper into the drug syndicate and tightens the net around the dealers, he is still not sure whether his unwilling partner will renege on their devil's bargain. "A nail-biter ... edge-of-your-seat material" (Variety).

Good Movie... Very HK style and back to the old HK movies of John Woo / Chow Yun Fat days... Quite unpredictable and the use of Mutes were really ingenious... Not your typical Hollywood film but sometimes its nice seeing a director do what he wants and watching a film that has no studio pressures put on it in order to increase box office numbers...

thanks Yvette for the free ticket!

good film but i thought the characters were poorly developed. all the characters seemed very mechanical and difficult to distinguish other than the obvious: good vs bad

Good movie, very unpredictable, definitely not your Hollywood type movie. One has to pay attention throughout. I highly recommend. Thanks to everyone that came out.

Just so we're clear the tickets are not for one person, they will be drawn separately to allow two members free entry. The distributor does not think it will sell out but as we all know there is no way to control what happens. It would be best if everyone came out beforehand to increase the odds of getting in, plus it's more fun that way!

Is the show likely to be sold out by start time? I am wondering this in connection with the raffle. It would be disappointing to show up and not be able to get in.
