Let's Eat At The Hot House Cafe Wednesday Buffet!

*** Phil D is the host of this event.  If you have any questions or concerns please post a comment in the section at the bottom of the page, or email him via the link on his profile page.

When you sign up to this event, you will be joining the wait list, so I will push people up to going if they meet the criteria below.

Members with No Shows:  You will be the last to be moved up from the Wait List if you have been a No Show in the last month or last event you attended.

If you were a No Show at any of the previous restaurant events I hosted, you will be moved to Not Going

I will close the RSVPs once the waiting list reaches 5 after I have moved up the 15 reservations, and clear out the wait list around 11:30am on Sept 3rd (the day of the event).  Keep an eye out if you have been moved to Going on the day of the event.

If you are on the wait list and you cannot attend, change your RSVP to 'No'.

The Hot House Cafe Buffet!

The buffet is a bargain at $19.95 (plus tax and tip).  The Hot House Cafe's entrees and meals usually range from $15 to $30, so this is a good deal.  Plus you get soups, breads, and all the dessert you can eat.  The food selection is mainly Italian with pasta, but they also have a meat carving station (I think it's roast beef and/or ham), and plenty of vegetarian and seafood options too.  You may want to call them directly if you have certain dietary restrictions.

Beverages are not included in the price of the meal.  The Hot House Cafe is okay with separate bills, and they will add a 15% gratuity (i.e. tip) to your bill with dinner parties of 10 or more.

Meetup Locations & Times

***When you RSVP 'Yes', please answer the question. I need to know who I should be expecting at King Station, and who will be going direct.  Thanks!

If you're Taking TTC:

I will wait at King subway station near the ticket booths with my blue shoulder bag at 5:45PM.  I will wait about 5min, then we will walk down to the Hot House Cafe as a group.

If you're coming by subway, you exit the subway platform near the back end of the train if you came from the direction of Finch/Bloor Stn, the front of the train if you came via the Union Stn direction.  You should see an area with a ticket booth, turnstiles, and lots of people.  If you don't, then you are in the wrong area, and you should walk back down to the subway platform and make your way to the other exit.

If you're going straight to Hot House Cafe:

Meet the group at the front desk area. Be at the Hot House Cafe by 5:55PM.

Don't ask for 'Meetup' I'm not making reservations under any group name so they won't know what you are asking about.  I will send an email the day before the event to let you know what the reservations are under.

***Please keep an eye out for updates or changes to the time and venue up to the day of the event.  If you are unable to attend, change your RSVP ASAP. Last minute cancellations for this event (i.e. 3 hours before the meetup time) may be treated as No Show.

When you RSVP 'Yes' you are agreeing to the MAMM policy and the Liability Waiver posted in this link:

Apparently, you can watch the whole movie on YouTube. A Matter of Life and Death (Stairway to Heaven)1946 David Niven, Kim Hunter

I remember seeing this Powell&Pressburger film when I was a kid and even then I knew it was special. Heaven was in black$white and Earth was fake colour. Just like in real life.

Thanks to Chris for the link to one of the movies we discussed at dinner. I haven't been as successful in tracking down what makes the American Beauty rose so unique among roses - it may be its growing season or its type of hybridization -but anyone going to see the movie may find the write-ups about the symbolic use of this rose in the movie - or its history in general - of interest. (If you Google 'American Beauty' you'll get a good selection of links.) And, to all my table-mates, just want to share the fact that, after some haggling, the insurer has approved my car repairs! One less battle to fight.

What a great evening out! And EXCLUSIVE! I enjoyed eating at the Hot House Cafe without the usual crowds. Wonderful time with Chris, Jeannie and Phil. Thanks to Phil for organizing this event!

Phew I am stuffed. Good thing I only do this once or twice a year. The food was great as usual, and the cake selection was wonderful. I think I ate $45 worth of food, so I got my money's worth. Thanks folks for coming out!

Hello, Phil! Add me to the subway meet-up list. I was going to take the King car and get off at Church but, with all the pre-TIFF hoopla, I've decided to take the tube instead. See you at 5:45! Deborah

Sounds good, but buffets aren't good for me so I'm declining the wait list. Enjoy!
