Christmas Day Film: 'Les Miserables' @ Yonge/Dundas (Buy Ticket Extra Early)

  • This location is shown only to members

It's becoming an annual tradition with MAMAM to take in a movie on Christmas Day. What better way than to see Les Miserables from British director Tom Hooper(The King's Speech).

Event Host is Karen L- You could e-mail me at [masked] with any questions/suggestions regarding this event.

Synopsis:

When Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) is released from prison after serving 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread, he breaks parole to create a new life for himself, but has to evade Inspector Javert (Russell Crowe), who's determined to bring him to justice.

Within the next eight years, Valjean creates a new identity and life for himself as a wealthy factory owner and the mayor of Montreuil-sur-Mer. Fantine, one of the women who works for him, is a single mother who sends all her money to the people who care for her small daughter, Cosette. When the other workers find out she has an illegimate child, they demand her dismissal.

Now on the street, Fantine turns to prostitution to make money to pay for Cosette. She's arrested but Valjean steps in and takes her to a hospital. Maltreated and malnourished, Fantine is on her deathbed. Valjean promises to find Cosette and care for her.

This is the movie version of the Broadway musical, with libretto by Alain Boublil and lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, based on Victor Hugo's novel.

If you're a fan of musicals, you will like this film because 90% of it is singing. Never seen the live musical of Les Miserables before so this was the next best thing. Thanks to those who were in attendance in joining me to see this film. Also thanks to Renata to stand in line early and helped us get good seats. And thanks to Swee for the gift, that was so sweet of you. Had a wonderful X-Mas day spending time with family and then with MAMAM.
