Mad-Railers May - ember-rails hands on intro

Matt Gauger will run the group through a hands-on introduction to Ember, and ember-rails.

Ember is an elegant, opinionated MVC client side framework, written in Javascript.

ember-rails is a ruby gem to elegantly join Ember on the client side with Rails on the server side.

Matt will step us through building our first simple ember-rails application.

Any chance Matt's presentation is available somewhere? Anyone happen to record video and/or audio?

What happened: Matt gave us a good overview of ember.js. Zach delivered an opinion provoking follow-up.

What I thought: The follow-up to Matt's presentation was great. It helped me a lot to hear what everyone else had for experience with the various JS frameworks.

What I learned: Ember.js is cool. Magical, even. Turtles (data) go in here and magically pop out there. Unless they don't. Then you're screwed and might want to use something else. Backbone, perhaps. Backbone is like legos -- a bunch of pieces that, given enough imagination and experience, can turn into something awesome. Or a discombobulated brick. No one had anything bad to say about angular.js, but I don't think anyone has used it much either.

I really appreciate this writeup. Both because I had to miss yesterday's meetup and because this kind of feedback is tremendously useful. Thanks Keith!
