Introduction to Handgun Shooting and Self Defense
We had a blast with the first two groups in the past 2 months and had more interest so once again have arranged for Gander Mountain to allow us to take “The Ultimate Experience” course which is a great way to safely experience handguns and the ideas of personal defense. Those who attended before and want to repeat - please wait until Thanksgiving weekend to RSVP so other have a chance to try this.
As many have expressed interest in another Meetup but have never fired a weapon before, this event will cover the basics of handgun operation, shooting technique, and most importantly, firearms safety. All sections are run by certified Instructors of Gander Mountain Academy, this course will use a simulator range where:
· The weapons function like real weapons (Glock 17 or Beretta 91A) with realistic sounds and recoil but the weapons fire lasers at computer generated targets.
· You will be taught various stance possibilities and proper aim and control.
· We will proceed in small groups to large simulators where scenes present varying targets, again with laser pistols.
· We will finish the simulations with “Reality Simulations” in a 320 degree simulator where you will face such possibilities as a threat in your yard or apartment building or when you return to you car at night in a public parking lot.
Finally, we will be taken to the live range with a Glock 17 9mm pistol, one of the most common handguns in law enforcement in the world. You will have a large target to take home and will fire 10 rounds of 9 mm ammunition. We will provide the eye and hearing protection, the laser pistols, and the range ammunition. If you are experienced, you may bring your personal weapon to the last section (it will be secured until that time by Gander Mountain employees).
Total time is estimated at 1 1/2 hours.
This is presented fully by Gander Mountain; you must sign waivers for them and pay at Gander Mountain Academy. The cost is $40.
Please update your RSVP if things change, we need 12 people to make this work. You must RSVP so Gander Mountain has sufficient staff. I will be at the academy before 5:30.
After the session we can adjourn to the Pine Cone Restaurant across the street for dessert and discussion.
