Frostiball

Join the Energizers for Madison's most glamorous winter party, the 27th annual Frostiball! We've been hosting meetups at this wonderful event for a few years, and we will continue the tradition as long as there is interest. Many folks have questions about what Frostiball is and what it is like to attend, so as a 9-time Frostiball veteran, I'd be happy to answer them for you.

Frostiball FAQs:

Q: What is "Frostiball"?
A: Frostiball is a black tie (optional) winter gala that raises money for Downtown Madison Inc. (DMI). DMI promotes economic development in the downtown Madison area.

Q: What do people wear to Frostiball?
A: The dress code for Frostiball is "black tie optional," which means for:
- Women - A floor-length formal gown OR a fancier cocktail dress. You do not have to wear a floor-length gown, but if you wear a shorter dress, try to jazz it up with some sparkle or shine.
- Men - A tuxedo or a dark colored suit (black or charcoal grey). Guys, you do not have to rent a tux. If you have a dark colored suit, you will be just fine.

Q: Do I have to take a date to Frostiball?
A: NO! You can go solo and mix and mingle with other people--this is what I've done most of the time. Frostiball is a great networking event, in addition to being a lot of fun.

Q: How much are Frostiball tickets and what is included in that price?
A: $100 for a gala ticket. This includes access to entertainment on several levels of the Overture Center, as well as all the food and drink you can consume throughout the evening. The food is excellent, and there will be lots of champaign at this event. Beer, wine, and soda are also included, but I believe hard or mixed drinks are on a cash bar basis.

Q: What kind of entertainment is there at Frostiball?
A: There is an orchestra for dancing on the main floor. They play all kinds of music from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, and most of the dancing is not ballroom style. People dress up and really cut loose at Frostiball! There is also a jazz band on the second floor for easy listening, and sometimes there is a piano bar.

Q: Who goes to Frostiball?
A: Frostiball is truly for EVERYONE! You will see people from their 20s to their 70s, and there will be lots of businesspeople, community leaders, and a few government officials. Everyone is welcome at Frostiball, so you do not have to feel intimidated or out of place.

Here is a link to the Frostiball website where you can purchase your tickets online: http://downtownmadison.org/events/frostiball Please bring your ticket to the Overture Center that night or you may not be able to get into the event. If you have any other questions about Frostiball, please feel free to ask. I hope to see you there!

Would love to go someday, but the cost is a little much for me this year. Please post it again for next year.

I just got an email from DMI that said tickets will be available for sale at the door on Saturday night in case you're not able to purchase before then. See you at the Overture Center!

Hi, everyone! It looks like we have an awesome number of people signed up for a fun and fabulous evening at Saturday's Frostiball. I thought I'd pass along a couple of quick reminders before we meet Saturday night:
    1. If you haven't yet purchased your ticket, you can do so online or by calling John at DMI at (608) 512-1332. I believe you can purchase tickets up until Friday afternoon, and then they'll hold them for you at the "Will Call" table inside the Overture Center.
    2. If you have your ticket, please bring it with you to gain entrance to the big party!
    3. David and I will wait for you by the coat check area until 9:15. If you are not able to connect with us there, my cell phone number is: (608) 332-8254.
    4. There will be plenty of food and drinks all night at Frostiball, so you don't necessarily have to eat a big dinner before you go if you don't want to.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all Saturday night!

Is there a coat check room? Is there a cost for it?

There is a coat check room, and I do not believe there is a charge for it.

I am looking for size 6-8 formal dress. Do people wear shorter dresses at the Frostiball or do people mainly wear long formals?

    January 18, 2013

    • Sue C.

I was wondering the same thing, I really want to wear long. Do they run out of tickets, like should we buy them right away?

No, they won't run out of tickets. You can buy tickets up to the event, and they'll have them at the "Will Call" table inside the door.

Ladies, if you're looking for great places to scout for dresses or formal gowns, I have a few suggestions:
    1. Pink Poodle on Odana Road
    2. Betty Bling on South Gammon Road
    3. David's Bridal on Junction Road by TARGET
    3. JC Penney's--yes, they do have LOTS of great dresses there!
    4. Boston Store
    5. TJ Maxx and Marshall's are worth a look.
    6. Citrine on State Street; although, many of their looks are prom dresses for young girls.
    7. White House Black Market at Greenway Station
    8. Borrow from a friend. Yep, many of us do have dresses we may not be wearing or wore only once.
Hope this helps and good luck shopping or borrowing!

Any one have a size 8-10 long formal they wouldn't mind renting out? Nothing dowdy please!

I am thinking of going to the frostiball but how will we meet up with each other. I really do not know many people and I rather not be by myself.

Thanks so much for RSVPing 'Yes," Audrey! We'll all have a great time there, and we'll look forward to seeing you. And, I bet you'll have some fun looking for a dress too. There are lots of sales and clearances going on, now that Christmas and New Years are over.

    Where do you park?

There are two parking ramps very close to the Overture Center which provide ample parking for the event.

Jean includes this information above, but I think it bears repeating that tickets to this event are $100 each! I have heard a lot of positive things about Frostiball, but have never attended.
